How the dead-stock score works

Dead stock is inventory you're holding that hasn't sold in a long time — cash tied up on the shelf. SkuVitals flags it and scores how severe it is.

When a product is flagged as dead stock

A product is flagged when all of these are true:

  • It's active in Shopify, and
  • It has stock on hand (more than zero units), and
  • It hasn't sold for at least your dead-stock threshold90 days by default, and
  • Its stock value is at or above your minimum stock value (0 by default, so nothing is excluded by value unless you set it).

Products you've excluded (by vendor, product type, tag, or clearance group) are never flagged.

The score

Once flagged, the dead-stock score scales with how long the stock has been idle relative to your threshold:

  • 50 at the threshold (e.g. 90 days),
  • 100 at twice the threshold or beyond (e.g. 180+ days).

That score becomes a severity so you can prioritise:

Score Severity
90–100 Critical
70–89 High
below 70 Medium

Tune it in Settings

In Settings you can change the dead-stock days threshold and the minimum stock value, and manage your exclusions. Lowering the day threshold flags stock sooner; raising the minimum value hides low-value items.

A note on locations

In this version, inventory metrics are aggregated across all your locations — a product's stock and days-since-last-sale are measured for the whole store, not per location.
